New Back Pain Relief With Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is an effective non-invasive treatment for chronic back pain by targeting deep into the pain areas and directly enhancing the healing process by reducing the pain sensation and recovery time. It can be used to avoid surgery, or recover faster after surgery. Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that involves creating a series of low energy acoustic wave pulsations that are directly applied to an injury through a person’s skin via a gel medium.

At Health Expressions, we use the best-in-class Masterpuls 100 Ultra Shockwave Therapy machine manufactured by the Swiss company Storz Medical for physiotherapy applications. It delivers precision acoustic waves to a depth of approximately 6cm below skin level. A series of treatments break down local calcium deposits, increase local blood flow and reduce local pain – accelerating regenerative and rehabilitative results.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Provide Precision Pain Relief For Chronic Back Pain and Neck Pain?

Pain is very common and can often improve on its own within a few days or weeks. However, this is not always the case, and when pain stops you from performing your day-to-day activities, it is sensible to get some advice.

When you attend your Initial consultation at Health Expressions, we will undertake a relevant medical history review, and usually spend approximately 30 minutes on a detailed examination.

Once we have established why you are suffering from pain, we will give you advice on how to reduce your pain, determine what may be contributing to your pain, and explain how the pain can be minimized or eliminated altogether.

The Shockwave Healing Process:

Shockwave therapy uses acoustic waves to penetrate deep into the tissues, removing scar tissue and releasing trigger points while also encouraging the creation of new blood vessels in the damaged areas. This aids the body’s natural healing process, as well as reducing discomfort and treating the root cause of chronic pain. Patients will notice a reduction in pain and suffering as well as better range of motion when doing regular activities after just a few treatments

From mechanical vibration to recovery and healing, shockwave therapy empowers your inert healing processes through mechanotransduction.

Scientific Evidence For Shockwave Therapy

There are several studies conducted to prove the effectiveness of shockwave therapy as a treatment of various types of chronic pain.

A study was conducted by the Faculty of Physiotherapy at the Opole Medical School in Poland to determine the effectiveness and safety of shockwave therapy for patients with chronic low back pain. (Source: PubMed

A total of 52 patients with lower back pain were divided into two groups in this randomized study.

Conclusion:

The treatment group received better pain reduction than the control group at the end of ten sessions with Shockwave Therapy.

Shockwave Therapy Research

“Low Intensity Shockwave Therapy in Combination with Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitors Is an Effective and Safe Treatment Option in Patients with Vasculogenic ED Who Are PDE5i Non-Responders: A Multicenter Single-Arm Clinical Trial – Beyond the Abstract” (URO Today 2020) – Results: a clinically significant improvement of IIEF-EF was achieved in 75 patients (70.7%) and Erection Hardness Score ≥ 3, sufficient for full intercourse, was reported by 72 patients (67.9%) at the follow-up visit. 37 (34.9%) patients reported a full rigid penis (EHS=4) after treatment.4 Moreover, Li-ESWT treatment was also able to improve quality of life (SQOL-M: 45.56 ±8.00 vs. 55.31 ± 9.56; p < 0.0001) and significantly increased mean PSV (27.79 ± 5.50 vs. 41.66 ± 8.59; p < 0.0001) and decreased mean EDV (5.66 ± 2.03 vs. 1.93 ± 2.11; p < 0.0001) in penile doppler ultrasound.4 On the basis of our findings, we consider that the combination of Li-ESWT and PDE5-i represents an effective and safe treatment for patients affected from ED who do not respond to first line oral therapy.

Therapeutic Advances in Urology Since the usage of Li-ESWT in treating ED is relatively new and most studies are short-term in nature, there is insufficient data on whether Li-ESWT treatment of ED produces any long-term adverse effects. Furthermore, there is insufficient data on whether those adverse effects are affected by various treatment protocols. With that being noted, to date, no significant short- or long-term side effects from the usage of Li-ESWT in ED have been identified (Sage Journals, 2021).
